Osiris Welcome Announcement (Banner)

The Graduate Student Resource Center and Career Services are excited to welcome our new Graduate Career Peer Advisor, Osiris Hal. Osiris is currently pursuing their PhD in Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology, working in the Trauma & Resiliency, Resilience & Prevention (TARP) Lab. Read on to learn more about Osiris!

THEIR STORY

Osiris (they/he) is originally from (all over, moved around a lot) the Bay Area, and went to UC Davis as an Oakland Promise Scholar. At UC Davis, they studied Psychology (B.A.) with two minors in African & African American Studies and Human Development. As an undergrad, they worked in two research labs, one related to formation of stereotypes and implications, and then afterwards a child development lab focused on memory, attachment and trauma. These labs, coursework, previous work/volunteer experiences along, with their own life experiences, informed their decision to enter a clinical psychology program.

THEIR ACADEMIC INTERESTS

Osiris is in their second year in Counseling, Clinical and School Psychology Program, working in the Trauma & Adversity, Resilience & Prevention (TARP) Lab. This past year, they looked at community-based suicide interventions for communities of color globally, particularly those that do not have police involvement. They also worked with a lab member on her research on the mental health impact of viral police violence on Black individuals and Black families and will continue working on her projects. They hope to continue doing suicide research to help improve clinical suicide interventions for individuals with complex trauma or C-PTSD that also practice cultural humility.

FUN FACTS

Osiris loves painting nails, the outdoors, anime, art, reading LGBTQIA+ fiction, swimming, drag shows, and animals (including spending quality time with their pup, Luna!)
