The Graduate Division is pleased to circulate a dedicated call for proposals to connect UCSB graduate-program alumni with current students about the job market, skills needed to advance successful careers, and the alumna/us experience in chosen career pathways.

Past funded events have included career panels, day-long programs, brown-bag discussions, lectures on careers inside and outside academia, and workshops aimed at training students for entry into a range of careers. Given the current nature of the job market, these interactions with successful alumni are more important than ever.

Proposals are sought for creative activities designed to facilitate conversations related to career development. Proposals must be submitted by students. Please complete the attached form and include the necessary documents. In addition, the Graduate Division will entertain requests for co sponsorship of conferences and other scholarly collaborations, if they significantly advance graduate  student professional development.

Inquiries and requests for funding should be submitted by email to Interim Dean Leila Rupp at graddeans@graddiv.ucsb.edu.

There is no set deadline, but requests should be made well in advance of the scheduled event. Funding is limited and will be awarded to meritorious proposals on a first-come  first-served basis. The maximum allocation is $400 for virtual events or $800 for in-person events. Funding for annual career events is capped at $200 and includes the expectation of cost-share from departments or divisions. Funded events should cite the Graduate Division’s sponsorship on advertisements or other event-related materials. A brief report on the funded activities should be submitted within two weeks of the event.

Questions? Please send us an email (graddeans@graddiv.ucsb.edu).
