Over the past 3 years, the Graduate Student Internship Fellowship has awarded over 18 fellowships to support essential career opportunities for graduate students. This is the only funding stream on campus that supports graduate students in gaining valuable career experiences outside the academy. The 2021 GSA Elections are taking place this week (April 19-22). There are 9 measures impacting graduate students that are up for reaffirmation in this year's election -- including the Graduate Student Internship Fellowship!
What is the Graduate Student Internship Fellowship?
Over the past three years, the Graduate Student Internship Fellowship has awarded over 18 fellowships to support graduate students' essential career opportunities. These annual fellowships of $2,000-2,500 have been awarded to students from various backgrounds and interests: Ph.D. and Master's students from STEM, Humanities, Social Sciences, Education, and Fine Arts backgrounds.
Why should I vote yes for reaffirmation?
This quarterly fee of $1.65 per graduate student, assessed every fall, winter, and spring quarters, supports graduate students in gaining valuable career experiences outside the academy. Without it, students report that they have to TA or stay on campus because they can't afford a low-paying or non-paying internship. Fellowship recipients have shared that the internship fellowship boosted their resume, expanded their networks, and opened up an array of job opportunities after graduate school. If reaffirmed, the fee will continue to be assessed until subject to reaffirmation in spring 2025.
