The Center for Engaged Scholarship (CES) is an organization created by and for social scientists who want the United States to be a more democratic, more egalitarian, and more environmentally sustainable society. The CES fellowship is intended for Ph.D. students who have advanced to candidacy and are currently in their dissertation-writing phase. We welcome applicants from academic departments and programs in the social sciences, including history, and social science-focused interdisciplinary programs; applications will not be accepted this time from students in education, public health, and social work programs. We also seek a diverse pool of applicants in background and discipline.

The following areas of study apply:

  • Anthropology
  • Economics
  • Geography
  • History
  • Political Science
  • Social Psychology
  • Sociology

Work inspired by these disciplines carried out in interdisciplinary programs such as ethnic studies, women’s studies, or American studies is also accepted.
