Voting is now open for the 2023 Art of Science competition! These projects share a visual story of creativity and discovery at UCSB. See the submissions and CAST YOUR VOTE for the entries that best pique your imagination and convey their impact through image and caption. First, Second, Third, Best Caption, Best Data Visualization, and People's Choice prizes will be awarded. Voting closes May 5.
The Art of Science competition is a collaboration between the Schuller Lab, the Center for Science and Engineering Partnerships, the California NanoSystems Institute, the College of Creative Studies, the Writing Program, and the UCSB Library. The Art of Science initiative invites current UCSB undergraduates, graduate students, and postdocs to tell the story of their research through the aesthetic. Whether it be striking spectroscopic images of a new material, data from a series of simulations, interesting photos of a device or instrument, visual data stories, or some other aspect of research captured visually, you are invited to share it.
Since 2014, the annual competition winning pieces have been on exhibit at the UCSB Library and other community galleries such as MOXI; UCSB Art, Design & Architecture Museum; and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art.
