The UCSB Library is offering a pair of workshops in week 7 to introduce students to two powerful software tools for your research: R and Zotero. See below for more information and registration links.

Intro to R Workshop

February 15, 17 and 18, 4-7pm (register by February 13)

This event is an example-driven three-day workshop introducing data visualization with R. Learners will start with basic information about R syntax and the Rstudio interface. By the end, learners will be able to produce simple time and scatter plots using ggplot2 and the tidyverse.

Short tutorials alternate with hands-on practical exercises, and participants are encouraged both to help one another, and to try applying what they have learned to their own research problems during and between sessions. Participants should bring their own laptop to work on. This should be a Windows, Mac, or Linux machine, not a Chromebook or tablet. You should also be sure to have admin privileges on your laptop.

For more information about this workshop, see our class page.

No previous experience with programming required.

Registration is open until February 13, 2022

Zotero Basics Workshop

February 17, 10-12pm

Additional sessions on February 24, 12-2pm, and March 1, 10-12pm

Zotero is a free bibliography management tool that helps you collect citations for your research and generate entries for notes and bibliographies. The workshops are designed for graduate students, but UCSB faculty and other affiliated researchers are welcome to attend.

The "Zotero Basics" workshops last two hours and will cover all aspects of using Zotero to manage citations for your personal research. While the basic workshops are designed for beginners, tips will be shared that will also help experienced users make better use of Zotero.

Please sign up for a specific session by filling out the registration form. This will ensure that you receive the pre-workshop email with instructions for what you need to do on your computer ahead of time.
