Application deadline extended for paid graduate student position with EOP

The UCSB Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) is currently seeking applications for a Graduate Intern as part of a federally funded Minority Serving Institution (MSI) Grant through the Division of Student Affairs. This internship will begin immediately upon hire for the entirety of the 2021-2022 academic year.

The Graduate Intern will support the department by working collaboratively with the EOP Management Team to assist in its assessment efforts utilizing a mixed-methodological approach that captures quantitative and qualitative data to create a holistic picture of students' experiences. Specific responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

1. Conduct assessment of the impact of COVID, housing, food access/insecurity, securing classes, etc... experienced by UCSB first gen students/income eligible (this will be honed in collaboration with the grad student intern)

2. Ascertain the educational experience and outcomes of students during the 18 months of remote learning. For example, some students performed better remotely while others performed worse. This may inform the ongoing campus discussion around hybrid/remote learning modules

3. Conduct an assessment of the impact of EOP summer programs (STEP, STTP, FSSP, 2nd Year Summer Program), and EOP services/programs

4. Develop a pre and post assessment for our counseling program and using the collected data to help inform how we can improve and better meet student needs

5. Present on findings related to assessment outcomes and EOP resources to department and campus community

6. Develop a "passport" program where participants are incentivized to access campus resources that students are less likely to be aware of or solicit (student health, academic advising/support, EOP, Caps, etc) by attending in-person engagements, completing 'challenges" and other tactics proven to increase academic performance, retention and graduation rates

This position reports to the EOP Director, and works collaboratively with the EOP Assistant Directors and as needed the EOP Professional and Undergraduate Student Staff.

HOURLY WAGE: $18 per hour for 10-20 hours per week.

PARTIAL FEE REMISSION: $5,908 per quarter or $17,427 for the academic year.

Qualifications:

1. Has completed one year of graduate study in residence at UCSB, is in good academic standing, is within university time-to-degree standards, and meets all other standard student employment eligibility requirements

2. Is energetic and knowledgeable about the UCSB campus, demonstrates organizational abilities and possesses good communication and interpersonal skills

3. Is familiar with and/or eager to learn about the mission of the Educational Opportunity Program. Preferred qualification: demonstrated commitment to first generation and income eligible college students.

4. Possesses strong writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills

5. Has experience conducting quantitative and qualitative research and data collection with data systems such as Qualtrics, Dedoose, etc.

6. Has familiarity of the history and current trends of inclusivity and diversity in higher education and the challenges faced by first generation college students including, but not limited to, current issues of sexual and gender diversity.

7. Has familiarity with current issues of sexual and gender diversity in higher education.
