Are you committed to ensuring that LGBTQ individuals are supported and affirmed at UCSB? Are you a graduate student interested in being involved with this community ​and getting paid for your work? The UCSB Resource Center for Sexual & Gender Diversity (RCSGD) is currently seeking a passionate and dedicated Graduate Assistant to begin Spring quarter 2017.

The RCSGD Graduate Assistant will gain practical, hands-on experience, and collaborate with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff. If you are looking at the current state of country and wondering what you can do to promote safety and acceptance, this is the perfect opportunity to get involved!

Qualifications

  • Experience or passion for working with initiatives for racial justice, sexual and gender liberation, and social justice
  • Knowledge of LGBTQ issues/concerns and an interest in working with LGBTQ students
  • Ability to work 10-15 hours per week (including some evening and weekend hours)
  • Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate program at the University of California, Santa Barbara
  • Experience hosting social, educational and academic programs and providing mentorship is strongly preferred

J​ob Description

  • Organize, host, and oversee quarterly LGBTQ graduate student mixers
  • Work with academic departments and graduate-serving offices and organizations to create educational and visibility opportunities for teaching assistants, the graduate student community at large, and campus staff/faculty who work with graduate students
  • Assist in benchmarking, research models for services and other data gathering activities for program and service development, including grant funding opportunities
  • Represent the Center at various events and outreach activities geared toward graduate students
  • Communicate clearly, thoughtfully, and professionally in all interactions and materials representing the RCSGD
  • Assist with the planning and execution of RCSGD events broadly and mentorship of undergraduate and volunteer staff, as well as other administrative duties as assigned

Additional Opportunities
Examples below based on the changing current needs of LGBTQ graduation students and communities and/or passion projects:

  • Meet with LGBTQ graduate students across disciplines to create initiatives and services based on specific needs
  • Serve as liaison between RCSGD and Graduate Students Association and graduate student organizations. Collaborate with other graduate assistants and campus organizations to host events of interest to graduate students.
  • Host annual LGBTQ research showcase and Out in Academe panel, and quarterly visits from scholars on intersecting LGBTQ research topics
  • Advise student organizations and/or student delegations to conferences
  • Develop and present workshops at Emerging Leadership Institute
  • Involvement with Trans Taskforce and its working groups
