The Graduate Division at UC Santa Barbara seeks an enthusiastic and dynamic professional to fill the role of Assistant Director for Graduate Student Professional Development. In collaboration with the Director, the Assistant Director plans and implements a program focused on academic and professional skills development for UCSB's diverse graduate student population.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Graduate Student Resource Center (GSRC), including coordination of the graduate student peer advisors
  • Develop a master curriculum and calendar of graduate student professional development activities and services
  • Develop and implement marketing and communications strategies for grad-related programming at UCSB, including management of the GradPost website as well as coordination with other campus entities who produce relevant programming for graduate students
  • Help coordinate major annual events on behalf of the Graduate Division (e.g. New Graduate Student Orientation, Grad Slam, Beyond Academia conference)
  • In consultation with the Director, create and manage a yearly budget for the GSRC
  • Conduct evaluation of professional development programming and recommend improvements for program effectiveness

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Exceptional organizational, writing, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Able to work well independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Experience with or demonstrated ability to learn new software and technology (e.g. social media, content management systems, image editing software)
  • Able to work confidently with diverse student populations and is committed to practicing and promoting inclusivity

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in program management, marketing and communications, and event planning
  • Experience in graphic design, HTML coding, and web development
  • Experience in supervision, mentoring, and/or teaching
  • Experience in designing surveys or other instruments for program assessment
