BACKGROUND
Starting in 2014, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) calls for everyone to have qualifying health care coverage (known as minimum essential coverage) for each month of the year, qualify for an exemption, or make a payment when filing his or her federal income tax return. This is called the ACA "individual mandate."

UCSB INSURANCE
If you have enrolled in UCSB's health insurance - e.g. Gaucho Health Insurance/ Aetna and then starting this fall for UCSHIP/ Anthem, you will receive TWO forms of proof of insurance for 2018. Both 1095-B forms will be mailed to you based on your mailing address listed in UCSB GOLD.

UCOP MESSAGE
Below is a message from the University of California's Office of the President (UCOP)
Your Form 1095-B Proof of Health Insurance

When you'll receive your 2018 Form 1095-B
"Generally, 1095-B forms will be mailed by the end of February following the year that is being reported. So, for example, by early March 2019, you will receive your Form 1095-B verifying that you satisfied the "individual mandate" under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) for the 2018 tax year. You can report your healthcare plan on your tax return without your 1095-B."
