The Sea Grant Knauss Fellowship provides a unique educational and professional experience to graduate students who have an interest in ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes resources and in the national policy decisions affecting those resources. Scholars will be matched with hosts in the legislative branch, the executive branch, or appropriate associations/institutions located in the Washington, D.C., area for a one-year paid fellowship. The California Sea Grant Program is headquartered at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego.

ELIGIBILITY
An eligible applicant is any student, regardless of citizenship, who is enrolled towards a degree in a graduate or professional program on February 21, 2017, and has an interest in ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes resources and in the national policy decisions affecting those resources. The graduate degree needs to be awarded through a United States accredited institution of higher education in the United States or U.S. Territories.

PROGRAM DATES
The length of assignment is one-year (non-renewable). The dates of the official fellowship are February 1, 2018-January 31, 2019; however, these dates can be slightly adjusted to accommodate academic semester needs.

STIPEND
The Sea Grant Program ​administers $61,500 per student. During the fellowship, the host may provide supplemental funds for work-related travel by the fellow. Of this amount, the eligible Sea Grant Program or Project provides $47,500 to each Fellow for salary/stipend. $9,000 will cover mandatory health insurance for the fellow and moving expenses.
