Vaccination guidelines for Fall 2021

The following is a message from Student Affairs.

As the Chancellor shared in his July 15 message (UC Systemwide COVID-19 Vaccine Policy Update), the University of California has issued its final COVID-19 vaccination policy. In accordance with the policy, all UCSB students must either provide proof of full vaccination or submit a request for Exception or Deferral no later than September 9, 2021.

Getting Vaccinated

Deadline to be Fully Vaccinated: Thursday, September 9, 2021

If you aren’t yet fully vaccinated, NOW is the time to begin the process so that you will be fully vaccinated by the September 9th deadline.

If you are in California, you can find nearby vaccination appointments on My Turn. COVID-19 vaccinations also are available weekly by appointment at Student Health for students. (New students may make appointments to obtain COVID-19 vaccines now, even before their first academic term begins.)

If you are outside of California, please refer to or your local or state public health office for vaccination information.

Remember: In order to be fully vaccinated by September 9, when you need to receive your first dose of the vaccine depends on which vaccine you are getting. Please plan ahead! Keep in mind that you may not be able to choose which vaccine you receive and supply in some areas may be limited. If possible, you should try to be fully vaccinated before the September 9, 2021, deadline.

Note: If you are outside of the US, any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration under an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) or by the World Health Organization (WHO) through an Emergency Use Listing (EUL) will satisfy the vaccination requirement. Please refer to manufacturer guidelines to determine how long it takes to be considered “fully vaccinated.”

How to Submit Your COVID-19 Vaccination Record

Deadline to Submit Your COVID-19 Vaccine Record: Thursday, September 9, 2021

If you received your COVID-19 vaccine at UCSB, you don’t need to take any further action. If you received it elsewhere, please follow these steps to upload your COVID-19 immunization record.

  1. Log on to the Student HealthPatient Portal Gateway

  2. Choose "Medical Clearances" on the left

  3. Find “COVID-19 Immunizations” and click "Update"

  4. Take a picture of your vaccination card and upload the image

  5. Confirm that your card image is clearly legible, then click "Looks Good" (click “Edit Image” to upload a new image)

  6. Enter the dates and manufacturer of your immunization(s) and choose "done"

Requesting an Exemption or Deferral

Submission Deadline: Thursday, September 9, 2021

The UC COVID-19 Vaccine Policy allows Medical Exemptions, Disability Accommodations, or Religious Exceptions. Individuals who are pregnant may also request a deferral for the duration of the pregnancy. Those that receive a vaccine exception will be subject to special requirements such as increased surveillance testing.
