UCSB's Instructional Development team is offering a variety of workshops for Teaching Assistants this Spring Quarter. Read on for a full list of these events, and also be sure to connect with Instructional Development on Shoreline for more information and to register for events.

UCSB's McNair Scholars Program is recruiting two Graduate Mentors. The goals of McNair are to increase the number of first- generation, low-income and/or underrepresented students in doctoral programs, and to diversify the faculty in colleges and universities across the country. Applications are due on April 8th by 5pm, so read on for more information!

Join the Resource Center Gender and Sexual Diversity (RCGSD) for their upcoming event, "LGBTQ+ Graduate Student Career Panel: Working at the University," which will be held on April 12, 2022 from 3:30-4:30pm. This panel is for LGBTQ+ graduate students across all disciplines who are considering careers within the university and outside of traditional professor roles.

Two consultation rooms in the Library are now available for graduate Teaching Assistants to reserve overnight and on weekends to meet with students for tutoring and academic consultation. Reservations may be made online two weeks in advance and for up to two hours per day.

The Interdisciplinary Research Collaboratory is pleased to announce its offerings of data and software workshops for the month of April 2022. These workshops are free and open to UCSB affiliates, including students, researchers, staff, and faculty. Read on for details on workshop topics and registration links.

UCSB graduate students, postdocs, and recent alumni can now register for Beyond Academia 2022 panels and workshops on Shoreline! This week-long conference will run from April 11-16. The Beyond Academia conference, organized by a team of UCSB grads, provides opportunities for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars to learn about career options alongside and outside of academia.

UCSB's Student Mental Health Coordination Services, in conjunction with the Office of Instructional Development, is offering a virtual workshop on April 6 from 3-4:15pm for all TAs: "Responding to Distressed & Distressing Students." Read on for more information and registration info.

Winter quarter is near its end, which means the CSEP-PDS team is starting to plan for the Spring. They would like to include you in this process, to help ensure that they can deliver content and workshops that you desire. The team has created a short survey which will help them better understand your preferences. Everyone who completes the survey will be entered into a free book raffle.

Beyond the Professoriate is offering a free webinar: "Leaving academia? Here's what you need to prepare." All graduate students and PhDs are invited to join L. Maren Wood, PhD (Founder of Beyond the Professoriate) for this interactive webinar so that you can be confident in your decision and knowledgeable about the steps you need to take. This month's webinar will run on March 25 at 9am.

The 10th annual ComSciCon Flagship Workshop will take place on August 4-6, 2022 in Cambridge, MA. ComSciCon provides graduate student attendees with a one-of-a-kind opportunity to meet early career leaders in science communication while also learning from and interacting with a remarkable group of invited experts. Applications are due on April 1.

The UCSB Library is hosting two workshops during Weeks 9 and 10 - Data Carpentry: Reproducible Publications in RStudio and Zotero for Groups. Read on for more information!

3M will be hosting Raising Influence in Science and Engineering (RISE) a virtual conference from June 13-15, 2022. RISE is primarily intended to introduce emerging female and/or underrepresented science and engineering graduate talent to the wide range of rewarding careers in research and development at one of the world’s most recognized innovation companies. Applications are due on April 11, 2022.

UCSB Graduate Division is offering a course for Spring 2022 designed for graduate students interested in a career in college and university teaching. Students will gain experience in applying pedagogical theories and evidence-based teaching into course design, implementation, assessment, and evaluation. Register today!

The Center for Graduate Career Success will be offering a free webinar, during which Dr. L. Maren Wood, PhD, will share research and insights about the the unique professional development needs of master's students. The webinar will also introduce a new training platform, Beyond Graduate School, and show how the platform differs from CGCS's work with PhDs and postdocs in Beyond the Professoriate. Hear from UCSB faculty across the disciplines who have done this successfully and learn how the UCSB Reads program can support your instruction.
