Every graduate student receives an @ucsb email address upon entry into their program. As a reminder, this email address will remain available beyond your time of affiliation with UCSB as long as there is some activity on the account every two years at minimum.

With this year’s theme of “Experimental Teaching,” the Engaging Teaching Symposium invites participants to submit research-based contributions as well as case-studies that make use of available evidence to discuss improved teaching, student learning and engagement, or professional development as teachers. Submit an abstract by the extended deadline, August 31.

Are you interested in teaching at a community college? Check out a new mentorship program called The Rancho Academy, designed for students interested in a faculty or administrator career at the community college level. The program is a six-week to ten-week commitment at no cost. Apply by September 1, 2022. Read on to learn more!

Are you in the middle stages of your dissertation and running into roadblocks? Do you need some new strategies and habits to help you finish up? Then apply for the second session of the 2022 Dissertation Write-In, which runs from September 12-15! The application deadline is Friday, August 5.

Stanford PRISM (Postdoctoral Recruitment Initiative in Sciences and Medicine) is an opportunity for select late-stage graduate students from diverse backgrounds to explore postdoctoral training at Stanford, including interviewing with potential mentors, getting the inside scoop on postdoctoral training at Stanford from current postdocs, and accessing professional development to score the best postdoc for them. UCSB Library's Carpentry Community is happy to announce it's offerings of entry-level programming workshops for researchers this Summer. These workshops are geared towards researchers with little to no programming experience. Workshops will cover basic concepts and tools, including version control, data management, task automation, and analysis. Read on for more info!

Are you mentoring a novice researcher this summer or planning to in the future? If yes, you are welcome to attend the Mentoring Workshop Series beginning June 10. This summer, the Graduate Division will once again offer an Oral Skills Workshop for prospective international Teaching Assistants. Departments are encouraged to recommend candidates who could benefit from an eleven-day intensive training workshop in oral academic English by Friday, June 24. Read on for more info!

UCSB Career Services is excited to announce current recruitment for a second Graduate Career Peer Position, to begin employment in Summer 2022 and run through Spring quarter 2023. This position will work with the current ​Graduate Career Peer and the Graduate Career Counselor to help graduate students on issues related to career development. Apply by Sunday, June 5 at midnight.

Apply for Free the PhD, a free 4-week virtual Career Bootcamp from June 27-July 22. The bootcamp will offer a blended professional development learning experience designed specifically for UCSB’s PhDs and Postdocs. Work with Free the PhD founder Vay Cao and UCSB’s Graduate Career Counselor Lana Smith-Hale to get individualized feedback, insider information on how to best sell your skills, and tips on how to network with the right people. The Graduate Simulation Seminar Series (GS^3) is back for summer 2022! GS^3 offers an in-person 10-week seminar program featuring talks from a diverse set of graduate students and/or postdocs who use simulation in their research, representing a wide swath of academic disciplines across UCSB. Seminars will be held on Wednesdays from 2-3p this summer, beginning July 13 and going through September 14. Read on for more info!

Virginia Tech has launched a new Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowship program that will prepare postdocs for the next step in their careers, providing a two-year appointment with nationally competitive salaries and benefits.
