A message from the Graduate Division:

Dear Graduate Students,

As 2018 comes to a close, our campus continues to acclimate to the recently implemented UCPath payroll system. While we hope that there will be fewer issues with the new system in the winter quarter, we are encouraging all graduate students to be proactive in checking their pay and fee payment status. To assist with that review, we would like to share the following information.

The Graduate Division commenced paying winter quarter fees via student BARC accounts on December 4, 2018. This was true for both fellowship and employment fee remission commitments. We will continue to disburse on a rolling basis, generally on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Disbursement of fellowship stipends for winter quarter commenced on December 18, 2018, and will likewise continue on a rolling basis (NB: There is generally a two business day settlement period between a stipend disbursal date and the funds being available in your bank account via direct deposit). To ensure timely disbursement, please make sure you are in the requisite minimum of eight units for winter quarter.

Getting in paid status is a required step to gain full access to campus services and systems including MTD services, Recreation Center access, Library privileges, and other resources on campus. Check your student BARC account and pay any other outstanding charges, such as rent, to ensure your paid status is set going into the quarter. For questions about those charges, you can contact the BARC office (barc.info@bfs.ucsb.edu or 805-893-3756) or consult your MyBARC profile. The BARC system will be closed for transactions from December 22, 2018, through January 1, 2019, though you may make payments during that period. Those payments will reflect on your BARC account on January 2, 2019. Getting in paid status is also necessary to prevent late payment fees. Though the fee deadline for winter quarter is January 7, 2019, graduate students will only receive a late payment of fees charge if not in paid status by January 17, 2019.

If you are expecting to see fee paying credits on your student BARC account but your bill is not yet paid, or are expecting a fellowship stipend you have not yet received, please consult with your home academic department on the status of those payments. Likewise, if you notice any issues with your December pay, please report it to your employing department (for more information, see the attached FAQs). You can review employment-based pay and related deductions by logging into the UCPath Portal (for clarification on your new UCPath Pay Earning Statement, please read through the Understanding Paychecks guidelines). For monthly employees, December pay information will be visible on December 31, 2018. For bi-weekly employees, information about your January 9 paycheck will be available January 7, 2019.

We hope you have a wonderful and productive winter quarter!
