The Resource Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity will be hosting a memorial to honor the 49 lives lost in the Orlando tragedy on Monday, June 20, at noon.

The organizing committee is now recruiting graduate students and postdocs to join the team for next year’s conference, where you can have the opportunity to develop transferable skills that are ​valuable to careers both inside and outside of the academy.

Dr. Duncan Mellichamp, Professor Emeritus of the UCSB Department of Chemical Engineering, has been a UC Santa Barbara professor for nearly half a century. He will speak about his career path, and the legacy of UCSB, as the Graduate Division's 2016 keynote Commencement speaker.

If you attended Grad Slam 2016, you already know Sara Weinstein as the Raccoon Girl from her talk about parasite transmission in raccoons. But do you know how she went from chemistry and art to majoring in biology and how her skills in mouse stuffing have helped her career in EEMB?

There is one week left to ​sign up for the 2016 Beyond Academia conference before registration closes on Friday, May 13! The full schedule for ​the conference – including detailed workshop descriptions and panelist bios – is now posted on the website.

If you didn’t catch the April 22 live stream of the 2nd annual UC Grad Slam, you may view the entire event, including the three-minute talk by UCSB Grad Slam Champion Nicole Leung, online.

The Graduate Division would like to remind graduate students who intend to participate in the 2016 ceremony that the deadline to register is Friday, May 6.

For 2016-17, monthly graduate student rental rates will be set at 20% below the current year’s rates. The rent for a room in a two bedroom apartment will be $874 per month and the rent for a room in a four bedroom apartment will be $764.

Professors Judith Green (Education) and Tevfik Bultan (Computer Science) received Outstanding Graduate Mentor Awards from the Academic Senate. They were among 11 faculty members and graduate student teaching assistants to receive honors.
