Program Description
The American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) funds recent Ph.D. recipients for up to 3 years for research activities. This award is designed to enhance the academic careers of recent Ph.D. recipients by providing support for research activities related to the goals of ASHRAE. Award winners will put their engineering and research engineering skills to use. The recipient is expected to contribute to the viability of ASHRAE's engineering effort.

Eligibility
Applicants must be nominated by their Department Head or Chairman. Nominees must be within 5 years of receiving a Ph.D. or an equivalent degree. Nominees must be within 5 years of the start of their first full-time tenure-track or tenured faculty position or equivalent at their nominating institution. Any university that awards degrees in engineering, science, or architecture is eligible.

Award
Stipend of $125,000. An ASHRAE New Investigator Award carries a base grant of $50,000 per year in the first two years with an additional award of $25,000 available in the 3rd year if it is matched by another source. The maximum award from ASHRAE is $125,000. New Investigators who transfer at any time, prior to or during the period of their grant, to institutions that do not meet the institutional eligibility criterion must resign their awards.
