The 2017 UC Laboratory Fees Research Program offers an opportunity for Ph.D. candidates to receive $60,000 annually for at least two years through on-site research at a National Laboratory.

 University of California Research Initiatives released a program announcement for the 2017 Laboratory Fees Research Program funding opportunity. This program aims to support collaborative research between UC faculty, graduate programs, and laboratory scientists. For eligible Ph.D. candidates, this program offers the UC-NL (National Laboratories) In-Residence Graduate Fellowships for at least 2 years for students to complete on-site research at either Los Alamos or Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories.

Eligibility: Interested graduate students must be enrolled full-time and advanced to candidacy by the start of the fellowship. Applicants must commit to a minimum of 80% time on the proposed research and be in-residence at least 9 months for each fellowship year. Students must have identified a scientist at their National Lab to serve as a mentor and supervisor.

Award: Annual award of $60,000 for two years, with the possibility of extension for a third year. Additional project-related travel support of $5,200 (over the fellowship period) is available, and an indirect cost reimbursement of up to 8% to the students' home UC campus.

Deadline: Letters of intent due by June 2 at noon.
