In one of its last events of the quarter, the UCSB MultiCultural Center (MCC) will host a free screening of Moonlight in the MCC Theater on Wednesday, March 8, at 6 p.m.

Last Sunday, Moonlight was awarded Best Picture at the 89th Academy Awards and, earlier this year, earned the Best Motion Picture - Drama gong at the Golden Globes. Based on the unpublished play by Tarell Alvin McCraney, In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue, the film follows protagonist Chiron through three formative stages of his life. Chiron faces immense challenges and abuse as he searches for his own identity and sexuality in drug war-era Miami.

As Moonlight moves through the different stages of the protagonist's life, Chiron is played by three different actors: Trevante Rhodes, Ashton Sanders, and Alex HIbbert. The role of Juan was played by Mahershala Ali, who picked up the Best Supporting Actor award also on Sunday and who House of Cards fans might recognize as character Remy Danton. Janelle Monae is also part of the cast, playing the role of Teresa.

Moonlight runs for 110 minutes and is free to attend.
