Arts & Lectures offered another great show on Thursday, March 10, at Campbell hall featuring classical guitarist José González.
González instantly won over the audience saying, "I had a good day here, talking to students and visiting the Storke Tower. Very nice."
He opened the show with his acoustic rendition of the Kylie Minogue song "Hand on Your Heart," from his EP "Stay in the Shade."
While he played, a beautiful spotlight silhouetted him, with light on his shoulders and his notably cool hair, âas smoke rose in the spotlight.
In addition to his classical guitar technique, which mesmerized the audience, each song featured a unique sound because González uses his own tunings, which are much different from standard tunings.
Of interest to graduate students with artistic inspirations, González was pursuing a Ph.D. in biochemistry at the University of Gothenburg in 2005, when his music career took off. He never finished the degree, but he isn't complaining.
Check out his new album, Vestiges & Claws, which was released on February 17. âHis first album in seven years, it was self-produced in his home in Sweden because he wanted to avoid the over-polished sound that often results when working with a producer.
