Passionate about teaching? Join the TA Pedagogical Advisors (TAPAs) team! UC Santa Barbara's Office of Instructional Consultation is hiring TA Pedagogical Advisor for Fall and Winter quarters, with the possibility of continuing in Spring.

TA Pedagogical Advisor

TAPAs supports UCSB’s TA Development Program by helping to build TA community, creating digital and print TA training materials and workshops, and consulting individually with TAs across campus about their teaching skills. TAPAs meet for one hour each week during the Fall and Winter quarters with staff Instructional Consultants to prepare for their roles and to expand their skills and expertise.

For 2020-2021, they are assembling a team of TAPAs who will:

  • Engage in peer consultation with TAs in a range of departments through the TA Video and Consultation program. TAPAs discuss TAs’ recorded teaching sessions and provide a written summary of the consultation. Click here: Past TAPAs talk about their TA Video and Consultation experience.

  • Host campus-wide “Pillars of Teaching Assistantship workshops” using and adapting existing curriculum. TAPAs may choose to design and offer additional specialty workshops on principles, strategies, and techniques of teaching.

  • Develop instructional materials in a variety of print and digital formats to support online and blended teaching and learning.

Desired skills and qualifications include coursework and/or demonstrated experience with:

  • College/university teaching, educational psychology, instructional design and technology, training, curriculum design, or related field.

  • Minimum 3 quarters of successful TA/teaching experience, preferably one or more teaching remote/online.

  • Using instructional technologies to support student learning.

  • Design of instructional materials (e.g. infographics, online modules, animations) using graphic design and multimedia principles.

  • Collaborating productively with a variety of peers and supervisors.

This position is paid as an hourly Student Assistant appointment at $21/hour. TAPAs typically work ~10 hours/week during Fall and Winter quarters, with the possibility of continuing in Spring. The position is flexible with the graduate student’s schedule.

Please submit a cover letter and CV to id-tadp@ucsb.edu. Optionally, you may include a letter of recommendation from one of the following: a teaching mentor, students, or other faculty supervisor. Please confirm your eligibility to work a minimum of 6 hours per week before applying.
