UC Santa Cruz and UC Riverside are jointly creating a new Earth Futures Institute with the goal of initiating humankind's first serious discussion of where Earth and humankind are headed, both now and in the far future.
They are looking for the first Earth Futures Postdoctoral Fellow, who will play a key role in founding the Center and shaping its programs. This two-year appointment is a wonderful opportunity for a curious, questing individual seeking a uniquely fulfilling and broadening career experience.

The Fellow will play a key role in helping to found the world's first center to study the future of Earth on cosmic time. The Fellow will help to shape the design of the new center and will engage with the entire range of academic divisions including the physical and biological sciences, social sciences, engineering, arts, and the humanities. The Earth Futures Institute is located at UC Santa Cruz but is partnering with a similar new interest group at UC Riverside. The Fellow will be based at UCSC but will work closely with sister programs at UCR.
Candidates must have a PhD in science, social science, or engineering, but previous experience across multiple fields, including the arts and humanities, business, government, and communications media is also very much valued. Beyond that, there are no set requirements except for wisdom, energy, and the passion to work towards a viable future for Earth and humankind.
