The Center for Science and Engineering Partnerships (CSEP) is hosting a series of mentor training workshops open to anyone who will be mentoring this summer and wanting to grow and develop their mentoring skills. Join CSEP for the last two parts of the series!

Learning Across Identities, Experiences, and Cultures
With: Anne H. Charity Hudley, Ph.D., North Hall Endowed Chair in the Linguistics of African America, Director of Undergraduate Research (UCSB Office of Undergraduate Education)
When: Wednesday June 26th, 11:30am-1:00pm

This workshop is designed to help mentors to work successfully with students of various identities, experiences, and cultures. Dr. Charity Hudley will focus on improving the research experiences of students who are from backgrounds underrepresented at the graduate level at research institutions. We'll discuss ways to actively make your mentoring practices inclusive as well as ways to mitigate possible unconscious and institutional discrimination in your research groups and beyond. Dr. Charity Hudley will also share approaches to addressing solo status, stereotype threat, and the imposter syndrome that actively support students and create inclusive academic environments. The workshop will be candid and interactive.

A Midsummer's Research Experience

This workshop is designed to be a collective mid-summer check in about your summer research experiences. We'll have a particular focus on working on ways to promote inclusion in your research culture for students who are from backgrounds underrepresented at the graduate level at research institutions. We'll discuss successes and challenges that you have experienced and work in discussion groups to develop plans to help ensure success for the rest of our summer experiences.

Participants are invited to submit questions ahead of time to cnsi-csep@ucsb.edu as well as to let Dr. Charity Hudley know what resources you'd like available before and after both of these workshops.
