Job Specifications:

Garden Street Academy, a private K-12 school, seeks a dynamic Middle School Language Arts Teacher with appropriate credentials and degrees to provide a quality, dynamic, and innovative curriculum for 6th - 8th grades, committed to thematic, inquiry-based, student-centered instructional practices.

The Middle School Teacher reports to the Dean of K-8 and delivers an educational program within the framework of the Common Core Standards.

Start Date: August 22, 2018

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree, Multiple Subject and/or a Single Subject Teaching Credential

Desirable Qualifications: Master's degree in an education field or the specific subject matter being taught. Experience teaching at the 6th, 7th, 8th grade level.


Essential Duties:

Apply a program of instruction that targets specific learning outcomes tied to student learning needs, school curriculum, and class culture.

Determine and follow a sequence of learning experiences for each course taught, developing and following written plans.

Develop and teach highly integrated thematic units of instruction.

Apply teaching strategies consistent with student learning needs, the curriculum, etc.

Assess students regularly to ensure adequate progress is being made.

Report the results of these assessments to the appropriate stakeholders as needed.

Create and manage a classroom environment conducive to student learning.

Communicate regularly via email, phone, written documents, and parent-teacher conferences regarding student academic and social progress and needs.

Participate in grade-level, and school-wide curriculum planning and coordination, as well as various school committees.

Develop and maintain standards of professionalism, including professional behavior and appearance.
