Project 1
Understand the molecular processes underlying collagen biosynthesis and secretion. The goal of the project is to define and characterize important molecular interactions that are involved in the assembly, intracellular trafficking, and secretion of collagen heterotrimers. The successful applicant will use targeted and systematic genome-wide functional screens (CRISPRi/a) and small molecule screens to identify interactions that might represent therapeutic targets.
Project 2
Identify the molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in neural crest cell migration and differentiation in the context of ocular development. The goal of the project is to gain a better understanding of the cellular pathways implicated in ocular development and how misregulation of these pathways can lead to congenital glaucoma. The successful applicant will use comparative single-cell transcriptomics and advanced microscopy of genetically labeled cell populations to understand how mutations in type IV collagens contribute to human ocular disease.

Candidates must be enthusiastic, passionate and self-motivated with a commitment to career development. You will have the support of an organized Departmental Postdoctoral training program including opportunities to present your work and bi- annual review of a personalized Individual Development Plan with your primary mentor and a co-mentor to ensure that you are meeting career goals. Supplemental salary support is available and you will be expected to compete for external fellowships and independent funding during the training period. The candidate must be able to independently and efficiently manage concurrent projects and while possessing a strong commitment to contributing intellectually and interpersonally toward a positive and stimulating lab environment.
A Ph.D. or M.D. degree and excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Extensive experience in molecular biology, mammalian cell culture, protein trafficking, study of extracellular matrix and cell-based high-throughput screens are all desired.
