Apply for Science Outside the Lab! A two-week workshop in Washington, D.C. that takes science and engineering doctoral students from around the globe to learn about the relationship between science, policy, funding, and regulation. The application deadline is March 16.

Presented by Arizona State University (ASU)'s Center for Engagement & Training in Science & Society (CENTSS), Science Outside the Lab (SOtL) takes science and engineering doctoral students from around the globe to our nation's capital, Washington D.C., for a hands-on, intensive 2-week immersion into the culture of science policy, regulation and funding.

This 2-week immersion is designed for doctoral students of science, engineering and related disciplines who are interested in:

  • learning more about how decisions are made regarding science and innovation policy, regulation and funding
  • exploring the relationships between science and society
  • expanding knowledge and experience with real workforce involvement
  • short-term career mentoring
  • Networking with congressional staff, program officers, lobbyists, regulators, journalists, academics, and museum curators

The cost of the program, $4,000, includes lodging, local transportation, breakfast and lunch daily, and all activities (The cost can be reduced to $3,000 is lodging is not needed).
