UCSB's Department of Religious Studies has two openings of 50% Teaching Assistantships in the following two courses for Fall 2017.

RG ST 2: Islam and the West from 700-1850, with Professor Ahmad A. Ahmad
Offered on Tuesdays/Thursdays from 9:30-10:45 a.m. in Phelps 1425. The TA will be responsible for four sections.
Course description: RG ST 2 covers Western encounters with Muslims from Islam's spread in the Near East and Europe until the mid-nineteenth century, including the depiction of the Prophet Muhammad in Western literature, positive and negative Muslim/European interactions, and their rivalry.

RG ST 82: Modern Arab Culture, with Professor Dwight Reynolds
Offered on Tuesdays/Thursdays from 2-3:15 p.m. in TD-W 2600. The TA will be responsible for four sections.
Course description: RG ST 82 explores the vibrant culture of the modern Arab World, including poetry, novels, theater, television, film, art, architecture, food, folklore, music, humor, reality TV, social media, and the blogosphere, in short, everything that makes Arabs Arab.
