The MultiCultural Center (MCC) at UC Santa Barbara is hiring a Publicist and Marketing Coordinator to support the programs and mission of the MCC. The UCSB MultiCultural Center presents educational and creative programs in the struggle against institutional racism, ethnocentrism, sexism, heterosexism, and all forms of group oppression. It provides a safe space for students of color, international communities, LGBTQ persons, immigrants, and representatives of any groups who face hatred. Since 1987, the MCC has inspired thousands of UCSB students, community members, and local organizations in the pursuit of student activism, campus diversity, university inclusiveness, and overall just society.

Location: Santa Barbara, California

Salary Range: $22.29-$25.75/hr. commensurate with experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate production and distribution of print and electronic material advertising MCC events (100+) per academic year, including but not limited to: fliers, posters, banners, event calendars, press releases, interviews, features, advertisements, and other efforts aimed at ensuring that MCC events are visible in the community and are well attended.
  • Design and create print and electronic material, including but not limited to: fliers, website, annual report, advertisements, t-shirt designs, etc.
  • Coding and development of MCC website.
  • Strategic management of social media campaigns.
  • Develop, organize, and update (on a quarterly basis) publicity lists.
  • Archiving all MCC publicity materials with the UCSB Library.
  • Publicize events organized by co-presenters, SA departments, organizations and other entities that present events that enhance the mission of the MCC.
  • Serve as liaison with community and campus organizations, establishing deep relationships and strengthening professional bonds.
  • Budget management.

Key Qualifications:

  • Strong communication skills
  • Creative vision
  • Amenable to feedback on creative work
  • Graphic design and coding skills, including mastery of Adobe Creative Suite and HTML.
