DESCRIPTION

The Graduate Division offers a number or resources, workshops, and events through the Graduate Student Resource Center in order to support graduate students in their career and professional development goals. We have obtained a grant from the National Science Foundation that will allow us to build upon and augment our current programming for the approximately 200 NSF awardees and honorable mentions among our STEM doctoral students. Specifically, we will develop and pilot a program of individualized and experiential career learning, including a year-long career mentoring program that will engage students with mentors across a broad range of professions.

Under direction from the Director of Graduate Student Professional Development, the Project Coordinator for STEM Career Development and Mentoring Program (25% time appointment, Job #JPF00871) will have responsibilities including, but not limited to:

  • Coordinating workshops and activities sponsored under the grant;
  • Managing the mentoring program, including maintaining records of possible mentors, matching students to mentors, and coordinating a travel grant program;
  • Collecting information about shadowing and internship opportunities for students;
  • Designing and analyzing assessments of program effectiveness, including questionnaires for students, faculty and mentors before and after participating in the program;
  • Drafting a report of the pilot program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree or equivalent experience;
  • Outstanding organizational, writing, and interpersonal communication skills;
  • 1-2 years of project coordination experience and a proven track record of excellence in administrative and logistical support;
  • Experience designing surveys or other instruments for program assessment;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

SALARY

Academic Coordinator I, with salary step commensurate with qualifications. 25% time appointment for up to 10 months from start date through August 31, 2017. For primary consideration, apply by October 31, 2016, otherwise open until filled. Start date is negotiable, but ideally would be no later than December 1, 2016.
