Career Services is hosting an information session for Ph.D. students and postdocs in the life sciences who are interested in learning more about non-academic careers and a post-Ph.D. opportunity through the Keck Graduate Institute. This information session will be a combination of a panel discussion with alumni from various life science non-academic careers and an information session on a post-graduate school opportunity. The session will be held on Monday, May 2, from noon-1 p.m. in the SRB Multipurpose Room. Lunch and drinks will be provided, so please RSVP here.

Overview of the information session:
The vast majority of Ph.D.s in life science fields find rewarding careers in industry. Employers value the scientific thinking and deep understanding of science that the Ph.D. brings to the company, but they also expect diverse skill sets to contribute toward company goals. ​This info session will present pathways to these careers and the professional development needs for scientists.

Main Presenter:
Dr. James D. Sterling is a Professor and Director of the Postdoctoral Professional Master's at Keck Graduate Institute in Claremont, CA. Dr. Sterling received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Texas A&M University and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in mechanical engineering from the California Institute of Technology. As a founding faculty member at KGI since 2000, Dr. Sterling helped develop curriculum that prepares students of the applied life sciences to work in the development of laboratory research tools, laboratory automation, and micro-bioanalytical methods.
