We are happy to announce that registration is now open for the preliminary rounds of the 2024 Grad Slam Showcase!

As we build on the successes from last year's revamped event, we continue to bring our campus and community together to learn more about the awesome research done by our graduate students. This year, we will reprise our reconfigured preliminary rounds, simplified scoring, and diverse and representative judging panels.

There are 8 preliminary rounds across 2 different weeks. Each round corresponds to specific programs at UCSB. Before registering, be sure to check what round your program falls under by checking out the preliminary schedule.

Showcase Highlights

  • Graduate students (just like you!) present their research in clear, direct, and engaging 3-minute talks for diverse audiences
  • There are over $20,000 in cash prizes for participants to win
  • The Campus Champion will represent UCSB in the UC systemwide competition in May 2024

Info for Presenters

If you are interested in presenting, make sure to register by the priority deadline of February 16, 2024. Follow this detailed step-by-step guide to make sure you are prepared!

New Certificate Program

For 2024, we are excited to launch a Fundamentals in Public Speaking certificate as part of the preparation we provide our Grad Slam presenters. This series of workshops is a must-have for those who are planning to present at one of the preliminary rounds, but the workshops and certificate are open to any graduate student or postdoctoral scholar who wants to gain expertise in crafting short narrative-based public talks.
